Has anyone
played while holding a baby? Just recently Minh played a round
while holding Ella, Joe and Jenny’s baby. Here is a picture. |
|
Is it hard to
play at night?: It can be very hard to play at night if it is dark, you need to try
to get each box lit so you can see your washers going in the cup. When I play
I just listen for my washer hitting the bottom of the cup. Here is an example
of taking a lamp from
the house and then taking it apart to light up your washer playing
area. This seems to be standard procedure in Tennessee. |
|
What are the
washers supposed to be used for?: No one really knows what they are
used for. As far as I’m concerned the best way to use them is for tossing into
boxes that look like drawers. Some have said that they make great Christmas ornaments.

Has anyone ever
played washers in a stadium?: Besides
the New Washer Stadium
you must be asking,…..Actually yes, Aaron and Corey
played 3 games in the Chapman
College football/soccer stadium. Even though there wasn’t much of
a crowd, just the thought of playing under the lights is impressive. |
|
Is Washers an
Olympic event?: No, washers is currently not an Olympic event. However it is
twice as likely to become an Olympic event because it can be played in the
Summer games or Winter games. |
|
Has there ever been any
injuries or violence in washers?: There have been only minor injuries. Sore backs from picking up
washers are the main complaints among washer players. Suggestion would be to
play more and build up back strength. There has been a recent violent attack
during a washer match. One player tried to throw a washer box at another player. |
|
Is it a good idea to play
at the beach?: Although it seems that playing at the beach
would be pretty awesome, it is extremely hard to find those washers that do not make it
in the box. If you are gonna play at the
beach, you better not miss, put down blankets, or have a metal detector(battery operated or human(Mario)). |
|
Is it ok to spend the whole
day playing washers?: It is always suggested that you play washers as much as you can.
There have been a few that have played washers from dawn to dusk….just a few |
|
How much do washers weigh?: That is kind of a complicated question. Not
all washers are the same, some seem heavier than
others. After weighing 140 washers the average weight was 2.54 ounces.
I believe that they are intended to be made at 2.5
ounces. I have one washer which was 3.17 ounces and
another which is only 2.07 ounces. More testing is being done to see which
washers perform better. |
|
Which washers
do you use?: We use flat 1”
washers. The 1” is the diameter of the hole in the middle of the washer. The
outer diameter is 2.5”. |
|
What are the dimensions
of the box?: The box is 16”x16” made from 2x4’s. The center cup is 3.5” tall
and has a 4” diameter. |
|
How far do you
throw from?: The front of the boxes are placed 17’ apart, so that you end up
throwing from behind the opposite box at about 18.5’. |
|
How do I know
if I’m getting better?: When you start making 2 or 3 in the box nearly every turn you
are getting better. For example, let’s say you miss about 82 times in a row,
then you make a bunch in a row, you know you are getting better. It’s really
that simple. Check out this video. |
|
When do you
find the time to make all these washer games and create a website for washers?: It really takes no time
at all. My workers do most of the washer boxing(they
love to say that!). Since I am a teacher I have plenty of time from 8 to 3,
Monday to Friday. |
